Interview for Empathy

Whilst conducting the interview, I discovered that for a digital product to be successful in the market, it has to deliver an effortless experience to users compared to the conventional ways the users subscribe to.
Initially, My goal was to understand how people donate clothes and identify pain points. However, in the midst of identifying users' views and their conventional ways of donating, the idea of the application expanded to not only delivering a digital experience of donation to donors but also creating opportunities for delivery service agents to be part of the process and beneficiaries which are organizations that depend on these donations such as clothes for persons under their care.
The interview was conducted with three persons, after which an empathy map was created and pain points extracted.

Wireframes and Low-fidelity Designs of Mobile Screens

The Home screen showing a brief introduction to each user, the projects and organizations that sponsors them and partners on the app.

Reflective Thoughts

The design of Pledge began with a focused intention: to explore how people donate clothes and to uncover challenges they face along the way. Through in-depth interviews and empathy mapping, the scope of the app naturally expanded into a thoughtful system connecting donors, delivery riders, and beneficiary organizations—all with the aim of building trust, safety, and convenience into every step of the donation process.

Interviewing three participants revealed that traditional donation experiences often feel uncertain or cumbersome. People weren’t always sure if their donations reached the right place, where to drop them off, or how safe and structured the process was. These insights directly shaped the design of Pledge.

The final prototype includes:

  • A Home screen that introduces users to donation causes, organizations, and verified partners, fostering transparency and motivation.

  • A donation tracking system, giving users live updates on their donation status and where it ends up.

  • A rider registration and verification flow, ensuring that delivery agents are fully vetted, protecting both donors and donations.

  • Clearly designed user flows that prioritize simplicity and security at every stage.

This project reinforced the power of empathy-led design. By listening first, and designing second, I was able to create a product that not only digitizes donation but also nurtures community connection and accountability.
